Last year, during our evangelistic outreach to Festac Town in Lagos State, Nigeria, we met a young man seated in front of a shop; I took the lead to engage him in a soul-winning conversation. He listened to what I had to say about Jesus Christ and then he motioned to give a remark.
He looked at me and my team and told us that he is familiar with the Bible, but he finds in it a contradiction that has made him decide to have nothing to do with Christianity.
So, I asked him what the contradiction was. He responded by saying, “When I read the Old Testament account on the children of Israel, I see a God who kills people especially those he calls his own because of a wrong that they did, but when I look at the life of Jesus Christ, I see him give a different response to people’s shortcomings. I feel there is a contradiction when I am told that it is the same God of the Old Testament that came in the person of Jesus Christ.”
Upon hearing those words, I knew that the young man in front of me was a truth seeker. I assured him that I understood what he pointed out from the Bible. So, I took his contact and promised to call him to give clarity to the contradiction he had seen in the Bible.
To someone reading this article, you may think that my intended conversation with the young man was to assure him that the prominent “God” of the Old Testament is the person of Jesus Christ – only those who have not seen the light will think that they are one and the same.
In subsequent articles, I will show you from the Bible that Jesus Christ is a different Spirit from the prominent “God” of the Old Testament accounts of the children of Israel. Also, I will, from the Bible, unravel the identity of the prominent “God” of the Children of Israel. Light is here!
