Do Not Kill God’s Prophet

Reading the book Jeremiah today, I am surprised at the audacity of the priests and the prophets in wanting to kill Jeremiah because he prophesied in the name of the Lord.

Jeremiah claimed to have prophesied in the name of the Lord and yet there was no restraint in them regarding their plan to kill him.

It is okay if they doubted his prophecy or criticized it, but to move to kill a prophet who prophesied in the name of the Lord reveals the depravity of their hearts.

What is more astonishing is that it was the priesthood and prophetic band that wanted to kill him.

Why did they not enquire of the Lord if Jeremiah indeed prophesied in God’s name? Why did they not give Jeremiah’s prophecy time to prove if he indeed spoke of the Lord or not?

Sadly, we see a repetition of this same conduct in today’s church.

In the days of our Lord Jesus, some of the people who shouted “Hosanna” were certainly among those who cried, “Crucify him!” At least we have no record of the mammoth crowd who shouted ‘Hosanna” speaking against the plot to kill Jesus.

How sure are we that if Jesus were in our days, some Christians would not have sought to kill him for his teachings and actions?

Sadly, it is “Christians” who seek to kill their prophets.

Sadly, it is “ministers” who plot to kill God’s prophets.

You may claim not to have such nefarious intentions against God’s prophets, but your mouth has spoken ill against God’s prophets.

We must be careful not to be among the company of people who seek to kill God’s prophets.
