Mary’s heart was heavy with grief, and her eyes could not hold back the tears that flowed down her face freely; neither could she stop the fountain of her nostrils from flowing as she searched for the body of her master, Jesus Christ. With each failed attempt to find the Lord, the reality of his missing body sank deeper into her heart, and she busted out more in tears.
She was still mourning the death of her Lord, and now, she has to mourn the loss of his body. It was a loss that was too hard for her to bear.
Amidst her weeping, the angels asked her, “Why do you weep woman?” She replied, “They have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.”
The attitude and communication of Mary describe the lives of a few who are mindful that the Lord remains where he ought to be.
While the Lord needed not to remain in the grave, there are places the Lord ought to be, and Marys of our time will be sorrowed at heart when they do not find the Lord where he ought to be.
There is a place where the Lord ought to be in our lives.
The Lord is present in areas where obedience to his word is expected. The Lord is present in institutions that he established. The Lord is present in hearts that have believed in him.
When you exalt your feelings, ambitions, and experiences above the truth of God’s word, you have taken away the Lord, and I know not where you have laid him.
When your marriage, education, business, and schedules do not have any regard for the values of God’s kingdom, you have taken away the Lord, and I know not where you have laid him.
When you no longer believe in God and choose rather to depend on your effort, intelligence, and relationships, you have taken away the Lord, and I know not where you have laid him.
Just as Jesus said to the Church in Ephesus, “Remember where you fell from,” you need to identify where you got it all wrong in your regard for the Lord.
Just as Elisha asked the servant, “Where did the axe head fall?” You need to point to those aspects of your life where the Lord has been taken away from.
We have homes, churches, and establishments where the Lord is not present, not because he does not want to be there, but because we have taken away the Lord and laid him where he can no longer interfere with our agendas, preferences, and conveniences.
Why should the Lord stand at the door and knock when he should be inside and never have to hit his knuckles against the iron doors guarding our agendas, preferences, and conveniences?
The earth belongs to the Lord, and truly, he created all things for his pleasure, but I see how men have quickly taken the Lord away from that which belongs to him and that which should reflect his glory and righteousness. And I cry like Mary did, “They have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.”
If you will keep your faith in the Lord and regard his interest above yours, we will never have to search for the Lord where he ought to be found.
I call you blessed.
